New York Startup / Tech Blogs
I am a loyal reader of several New York City tech and startup blogs. Generally, though, I’ve surfaced these gems over time — through Twitter, cross-blog links, or elsewhere. So, for others interested in similar resources, here is a running list of some of the best, along with a link to a representative post:
- Mark Birch, Strong Opinions. Mark is a “is an early stage technology investor, entrepreneur and commodities trader based in NYC.” He likes to stir the pot from time to time, which is fun. Check out the post “More Ridiculously Annoying Startup Memes.”
- Hilary Mason, Hi. I’m Hilary Mason. Hilary is “the Chief Scientist at bitly, a Dataist, Co-Founder of HackNY, member of NYC Resistor.” Posts range from random snippets of code to quirky applications of data analysis, like Hacking the Food System: The Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie.
- Michael Karnjanaprakorn, Self-Titled. Michael has an unpronounceable last name, which I support. He is also the co-founder of Skillshare, a 2012 TED fellow, and a great guy. How to Launch Your Startup Idea for Less than $5K is a good example.
- Alex Taub, Alex’s Random Tech Thoughts. Alex does BD for Aviary, or as he puts it “Biz Dev, Entrepreneur and Aviary.” His blog is an enjoyable mix of humor, truly random thoughts, and insightful posts. Sincere Selling Is The Best Selling is a great example.
- Chris Dixon, Chris Dixon’s Blog. Chris is the co-founder of Hunch (an idea that he stole from me, incidentally), an early-stage investor, and the co-founder of Founder Collective. He just might be the smartest guy I don’t know. For a sample, give Some Lessons Learned a look.
- Fred Wilson, AVC. Fred is a “is a VC and principal of Union Square Ventures.” As far as I can tell, he is also the crown prince of NY tech blogging, at least from the VC side of things. Check out this simple explanation of convertible debt at Financing Options: Convertible Debt.
- Charlie O’Donnell, This is going to be BIG… Charlie “is a Principal at First Round Capital, working on very early stage investments in the New York City area”, fitness geek, and man about town. Try this post about hiring: Tracking the Hiring Funnel.
This list is only growing, so check back from time to time. If you have a few favorites of your own, let me know via Twitter: @dfkoz.
